92nd Harney County Fair, Rodeo & Race Meet – “Bucking Chutes & Dusty Boots”
September 7-11, 2016
Rick Paul, Fair Manager
69660 S. Egan Street
Burns, OR 97720
Meet The Folks
The Manager’s Report:
I am so excited to be involved with this 92nd annual Fair, Racemeet and Rodeo. The fair’s theme of Bucking Chutes and Dusty Boots exemplifies the way of life in Harney County. Bucking Chutes testify to the work of the cowboy and ranch hands, while the dusty boots refers to the hard work of the citizens.
I love having the involvement of the Harney County food bank as we present the battle of the bands on Wednesday night. We are trying to feed the hungry in Harney County with this battle, making the hungry the real winners. Bring a couple cans of food and enjoy the competition for your vote. I am excited to have the youth and adults of the community on stage on Thursday as we celebrate the talent hidden in the county. At the other end of the fairgrounds, we have the youth who spend their time working the land and cattle, showing off their best, 4-H and FFA are traditional youth groups dedicated to the advancement of the agricultural life. They are education based programs which benefit not only the youth involved but the community as these youth practice in life what they learn in school.
Our fair continues to celebrate the traditions of the community with the sharing of the talents of the handcrafters, the canners, the jelly makers, the flower growers, the artists, and photographers. We all get to view these traditional activities which enhance the quality of life for Harney County. We are also given the opportunity to view the civic organizations which make this area of Oregon special. Outside we have the gift of the food a wonderful array of tasty tidbits, which we only get at the fair. This year we are going to have the opportunity to have espresso drinks, cinnamon rolls, and the ever favorite Indian Taco. Most of the food vendors have promised an expanding list of foods to temp the diet. We will also have the traditions of the commercial vendors who will give you the opportunity to purchase some of the latest goods. The carnival will again feature the Ferris wheel of the past as well as the traditional rides for kids of all ages. They will also have the fair food favorites of cotton candy and candied apples.
The 92nd annual Harney County Fair, Racemeet, and Rodeo has been planned to give the fair-goers some of the same, but also some of the different. The stage shows will have local as well as talent from a far. Many of the changes to the fair will be subtle, some more visible, but all to make your fair experience one of the best so far.

As I was leaving the stage this afternoon, I said goodbye to a few of my young regulars and was so touched when Hannah handed me this! ❤️❤️❤️ #harneycountyfait #ilovemyjob #meltmyheart
