Flood risk changes over time, and mapping technology has improved. FEMA, with the state, county, tribes, and local communities, is using new data and technology to create updated FIRMs. These FIRMs better represent flood risk in Harney County and the Burns Paiute Reservation. New maps help our community better understand flood risks and make more informed decisions about how to protect itself from damage and loss.

At this time, the updated flood maps are considered preliminary. This means that they are in draft form, and open for public review and input, known as comments and appeals. The comments and appeals process is outlined in the Flood Map Study and Engineering tab on the site accessed on the link below. Once all comments and appeals are addressed and your community adopts the maps, the new FIRM will become effective.
